Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium, Polybromaintaed Biphenyls (PBB) or Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE).

What is ROHS?

The RoHS Directive stands for "the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment", or simply “Resctrition of Hazardous Substances.”  This Directive bans the placing on the EU market of new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants.  For Cadmium and Hexavalent chromium, there must be less than 0.01% of the substance by weight at raw homogeneous materials level. For Lead, PBB, and PBDE, there must be no more than 0.1% of the material, when calculated by weight at raw homogeneous materials. Any RoHS compliant component must have 100 ppm or less of mercury and the mercury must not have been intentionally added to the component.   The Directive was enacted into law by the countries of the European Union in February 2003. It restricts certain hazardous substances in an effort to address waste management problems linked to materials that are likely to pose risks to human health and the environment.  All applicable products in the EU market after July 1, 2006 must pass RoHS compliance.
